CAMPS FOR UNEMPLOYED
LABOR PARTY’S PROTEST LETTER TO THE MINISTER Tbe stand taken by the Gisborne Borough (Viuncil in asking that local unemployed men should not he forced into camps while sufficient work was available for them in Gisborne is endorsed by the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Labor Parlv which discussed the matter at its last meeting. As a result of this meeting, tbe secretary, Air. A Hudson, lias dispatched the following letter to the Minister of Employment, the lion. A. Hamilton : “1 am directed bv the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Labor Party to forward to you the following resolution. which was carried unanimously at the last, meeting:— “ ‘That this branch supports the Gisborne Borough Council in its orotest against the Unemployment Board sending married or single men into count iv camps, whilst there is plenty of work for them in and around Gisborne. “ft should be needless Tor me. to point out to tbe board that, besides creating a great hardship on those forced into eamns. it will mean also a great loss to the business people of this town, whom, von know, are carrying on under great difficulties. Trusting that yon will reonest ilie Unemployment Board to accede to our request.”
