WRESTLER LIBELLED
ONE SHILLING DAMAGES
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The hearing of the libel action by Peter Limutkin, the wrestler, claiming £75 damages from Warnes and Stephenson, proprietors of the New Zealand Sportsman, in connection with, a statement by Karasick in commenting on a challenge by Limutkin offering to wrestle, inter alia, for charity,, was concluded in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Counsel for the defendant submitted, firstly, that there was no libel contained in the statement, and. secondly, it was submitted that the statement was true. The statement of October 22 was fair comment, on a njatter of public interest, made in good faith, and without malice. , After one witness for the defence nad given evidence, the magistrate said that it was clear to him that libel had been committed, but he thought that no dam-, age had been suffered, and he awarded Jg damages. ♦
