TRADE AGREEMENT
HEW ZEALAND AND CANADA
"As far as its value to the New Zealand dairy industry is concerned Ihc trade agreement signed at Honolulu by the Hon. W. Dowriie Stewart and Mr. Stevens on behalf of New Zealand and Canada is not worth the paper it is written on,” said Mr. W. A. lorns, nbairinau of the Dairy Board, in an interview in Wanganui. Mr. lorns explained that there was a vital clause in the agreement which made the provision that notwithstanding the fact that New Zealand exporters of dairy produce were prepared to pay higher import duties, they had to have the acquiescence of the Canadian Government before the produce could enter .Canada. On the other hand, there was no such protection as far as New Zealand was concerned. The Canadian Government was in the position of reaping to let New Zealand produce in.
