GISBORNE COMMITTEE INNES CYCLING CUP JUNIOR TRACK MEET PLAN The institution of a junior track meeting scheme, to promote interest among the primary schools’ pupils in the general range oi amateur athletic competition, was adopted at the weekly meeting of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harriers’ Club committeq held last evening. There were present at the meeting Messrs. C. McCoy, chairman, R.. Wildish, W. N. Wildish, P. McMahon, W. Callaghan, J. M. Primrose, W. Campbell and T. R.. Gordon. Applications for active membership were received from Messrs. H. E. Richards, D. Heeney and J- Davoren, and were approved. The proposal for a junior track meeting was welcomed, and it was decided to make the first experiment on Thursday next, opening at 3.45 p.m. with a programme comprising 75yds. and 50yds. races for girls, and 100yds. and 75yds. handicaps for boys. The committee agreed that each primary school should have the right to nominate three entries for each of the events. Discussion took place in connection with the Hawke’s Ray Herald Shield challenge, in respect of which a Napier club team will visit Gisborne on December 17. The committee agreed that the programme arranged for last year’s meeting had given general satisfaction, and the programme sub-committee was directed to prepare its list of events on the same lines. The chairman mentioned the mattei of the cycling handicap cup presented to the club by Mr. J- Innes, a consistent supporter of the amateur code. Ihc trophy was intended for competition among cyclists under 21 years pf age, and to be available from year to year until won outright, by a competitor who (a) scores the maximum number oi points in any one season’s competitions, or (b) holds the cup. for two seasons in succession or threo seasons at intervals. In each year the trophy will be contested in a series of three races, at one mile, two miles, and three miles respectively. Conditions as suggested by Mr. Innes were favored by the committee, which instructed that a letter of thanks be dispatched to the donor of the trophy, with an intimation that the conditions would be applied as desired by the It was reported that trophies were now available from the hon. secretary for N. Brown, G. Spratt, M. McMahon, 0. Wellington, C. Bollard, A. S. Parkei, Ei A. Smith, and 0. parley. The need for efficient coaching of young competitors in the ladies section was given consideration by the committee, and an offer by Miss Norma Wilson to undertake coachmg in this section was gratefully accepted. Miss Wilson was appointed official coach to the lady runners.
