The theft of a quantity! of jewellery, valued at £2BO, and £4 in money was carried out in premises occupied by Mr. P. A. Richards. Dominion road, Auckland. Mr. Richards owns a pork butcher’s shop, and there are dwelling rooms above the shop premises.
A youth of 16 years of age strolled into the boys’ bureau in Napier to register as unemployed and within the course of the day lie. was placed in a' position on a station. The lad was deserving of work and his story was verified by his mother, and was briefly as follows ! Sett inn- out- with two companions in search of work from Arapuni they walked to Horotiu freezing works, approximately 46 miles, where no work was available for them- They proceeded to Tirau, thence to Rotorua, and got a few lifts on tho road that landed tliem at Opot-iki. From Opotiki they walked to Matavvai, which took them three days and proved a very trying time for them. From Matawai they proceeded to Gisborne, and ''here they were fortunate in getting their first job from Air. lb C. Fisken. From Gisborne they obtained one or two lifts on the road to Napier, where one of the boys resides. The other lads returned to their homes in Wellington.—Napier Telegraph. LOCALS
