BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
VIEWS OF ARCHITECTS PROPOSALS IN NEW BILL Concern at certain proposals embodied m the Building Construction Bill was expressed by Mr. R. A. Lippincott, retiring president of the Auckland brand) of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, at the annual meeting. Mr. Lippincott said steps had already been taken to make representations to the Government on several points. The principal objection was to the authority nroposed to be given the Public Work’s Department, which would have the right of over-riding inspection of , both plans nod building. Again, it appeared at present that there would be only one architect on the committee proposed under the bill, although there was the possibilitv of anothei; architect aifiong the seven other members. Another, matter was the special fee to be paid for permits. The Dominion institute was already moving in regard to the proposed departmental authority, but the Auckland branch desired to make representations in the other respects. . The action of the committee in seeking to make representations- to the Government- was endorsed by the meeting.
