Duchess of York’s Home

many months ago, the King gave Royal Lodge to the Duke and Duchess of York for their country residence, they hoped that the necessary alterations and improvements would be finished in time for them to move in before Ascot. But so much had to bo done that their Royal Highnesses are only now able to make definite plans to stop at their new Windsor home, where in future they hope to spend a good deal of their time.

Royal Lodge will he a charming place now tiiat all the new decorative schemes have been carried out. The Duchess of York has planned most ot the rooms herself, and has supervised ; personally the work that lias now practically been completed. It is an L shaped house, set far back from tho i mad, among trees, and fringed with lawns and flower-filled garden beds. The Duchess i;, especially pleased at the prosj cct of having a garden, and I has had parts of her Windsor home! laid put as much as possible like the gardens at Lord and Lady Strathmore’s country place, St. Haul’s, Walden bury, where she spent much of her time before her marriage. No wall papeth have been used for the rooms at Royal Lodge. Both the Duke and Duchess much prefer dull paint that ranges from ivory to deep . parchment tho Duchess (■specially j likes ivory tinted walls and has ■ chosen them for the three nurseries, j which have been set aside for the use | of her two little daughters. Gay j chintzes of blue and yellow provide ■ the necessary note of color against 1 this restful background. j The larger reception-rooms have i walls of a soft green shade, and in the I cream walled dining-room, the glasstopped table has a green lining. A good deal of the furniture, chosen for Royal Lodge is made of pickled oak, and has been specially carved by exscrVicemcn. Modern woods are to be seen in the bedrooms, where each ono has its own soft pastel color scheme. — i Sydney Morning Herald correspondent, i
