Trend of Engine Design
riYE years ago 3C per cent, of the * engines of passenger cars manufactured in the United States were of either eight or 12-cylinder types. A survey ot the production for 1932 shows that 63 per cent, of the 73 chassis models bu'.lt by 35 different manufacturers are ot eight or more cylinders. Of that total, 40 models are "eights.” In Great Britain, of 35 different companies malting motor cars 19 list four-cylinder cars, 29 market "sixes,” and four manufacture "eights.” From present indications there appears to be a tendency for some makers to r-*vert to the building of four-cylinder units, a fart, which may be attributed largely to the great advances which have oeen made towards the perfecting uf engine suspension. f. p • >.•
