TERRITORIAL NOTES

{By ‘'Sniper'’)

The week just passed has beep an yn- • eventful one so far as company parades are concerned. Monday evening was spent as usual by a good number in games and the badminton players were getting in form in expectation of a match against the Y.M.C.A. team, to be played on Monday evening on the Y.M.C.A. club’s court. The Defence team will be picked from the following players, who will assemble at the hall at 7 o’clock: Captain Bongard, SergeantMajor Stichbury, Sergeant-Major Pterritt, Q.M.S. Thomson, Sergeant Crafts, Corporal Patterson, Lance-Corporal Hopkinson, Privates Kaua, Prentice, Lockett, Ball, Coker, Vincent, Hayes, Margoliouth, Craig, McLaughlin and Heiffer. Captain Blackburn is paying a visit to Auckland and on returning be will immediately make a selection fpr the site of the week-end camp to be held next month. Corporal L. J. Patterson is about to leave Gisborne to take up a position in Whakatane. The' best wisjiea of the local, territorials for a successful venture are offered. Wo realise that, Corporal Patterson’s experience and -'knowledge as a signaller will be greatly missed by the group of signallers attached to the Headquarters Wing Company. There still seems to be plenty of activity amongst the signallers section. Lights have been noticed flicking out messages from various vantage points ai-ound the town and the conclusion is that the more enthusiastic members of the section are practising with their lamps in the early hours of. the night : no wonder they are he coming so proficient in their specialists’ work. Shooting on the ranee last Thursday, the men of the TJ.Q, Wing, ECamp&ny, nnd » few of the Mounted Rifles were unable to reach the high standard set for the marksman’s badge. The high® 3 * score of the day was put up by Private Kaua with IC6 out of a total of 140. Private Prentice was ope point behind him and quite a number reached scores bordering on the century. With a- little more practice there should be a few who Will be entitled to wear the crossed rifles on their sleeve. i ..i, I ; i . i t, WHS
