CHEESE QUALITY
BRITISH COMPLAINTS QUESTION IN THE HOUSE * (Parliamentary Keporter.) WEtLLI.NGTON, this day. Stating that specific complaints had been received from Great Britain regarding the quality of New Zealand cheese, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson (lnd., Egmont) in the House yesterday asked the lion. C. E. Macmillan whether steps wouid be taken to set up an in- £~? •' vestigating committee of tho most able experts available in order to provide a remedy. Mr. Wilkinson said there had been complaints of discoloration in colored cheese as well as of the waxing process. It was alleged that these were responsible for the deterioration of quality. “I am aware of the complaints which liavc* been received from Great Britain regarding discoloration in cheese,” replied Mr. Macmillan. “The matter is having very full investigation at, the present time by departmental officers, working in co-operation with the Dairy research Institute at Massey College., and the. Dairy Board. Inspecting officers of the department are in close touch with the work at all factories concerning the cheese complaints that have been made. Experts have- conferred from time to time on these troubles, and if it seems to he necessary a further special conference will bo convened.”
