(Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLINGTON, this day
The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes was well satisfied with the progress made by the House of Representatives yesterday, and called it a day half an hour before the usual time for tiie adjournment. The afternoon sitting was devoted to receiving reports from Select Conimmittees. Alost of these concerned individual petitions, and .the House displayed little interest in the findings, hut attention quickened when a committee advised the Government to delay until there was an improvement in the financial conditions m the reinstatement of the grant for kindergartens. A move was made by the Opposition to have the matter referred hack to the committee for further consideration, hut the House endorsed the committee’s findings by 37 votes to 21.
In the evening, the House accorded second readings to the National Exncnditure Adjustment Amendment Bill, the Mortgagors and Tenants'Further Relief Bill, the Municipal Association Bill, and tho Municipal Corporation Bill. As tho latter measure had only been circulated n few minutes before the second reading. Opposition criticism was rather restrained, and the Alinister announced his intention to delay the committee stn<n> until members had been able to study the 393 clauses and 13 schedules which the bill contains.
