SUCCESSFUL MEETING INTERESTING HNISHES The popularity of the Thursday evening sports meetings conducted bv the Poverty Bay Professional Athletic and Cycling Club was illustrated last evening, when a large crowd of spectators gathered at the Victoria Domain to witness the mixed programme of athletic, cycling, and field events. There were good fields; 11 events took place, the contests being keen through-. out, with close finishes. In the cycling event two of the contestants had a spill. C. O 'Connell was unable to negotiate one of the bends and both rider and bicycle ended up in a fence. In the straight, with a good chance of winning, H. J. Davis collided with one of the other cyclist’s wheels' and was brought down. A good performance was put up by N. Beale, 120yds., who secured another win. Since the opening of the season, this competitor has not been out of a place.jy I The mixed relay race for the i Bradley miniatures caused great interest, especially as six teams competed. Last night was the first of | the series of these races and the teams notched points according to their placing* and handicap. Results: — 120yds. Men’s Handicap (12 starters). —First heat: E.
