Among the visitors at the A. and P Show at Nelson was Mr. .1. A. Bottrell, of Blenheim, who despite his 90 odd years is as active as many a man much bis junior, states the Nelson Mail.

Mr. F. J. Langbein, of Stoke, Nelson, who has represented the firm of Messrs. Bing, Harris and Company as traveller on the West Coast for nearly half a century, is retiring on superannuation. Mr. J. A. Lee and'Air. W. .1. Jordan were each granted three days’ leave of absence on account of urgent public business by the House of Represent at i ves yesterday. Mrs. K. Isacksen, Masterton, widow of the late Mr. J. Isacksen, celebrated her ninetieth birthday on Sunday. Born in Norway in 1842, Mrs. Isacksen came to New Zealand with her husband in the sailing vessel “llovdiiig” 59 years ago, landing in Napier and later walking to Mauriceville, where, she resided until two years ago.

Senior-Sergeant 11. McCVorie, who lias been in charge of the New Plymouth Police .Station for the past 15 years, is to retire on superannuation about the middle of December. In 1913 lie was appointed in charge of Westport, and went through the troublesome strike period on the West Coast, and spent the war period there.

Tne Rev. G. T. Beale, vicar ol Stratford, has been appointed a canon of St. Peter’s Cathedral, Hamilton. He was ordained in 1913 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, by the present Bishop of London He went to Auckland in 1919 and for a short time assisted Canon McFarland at St. Barnabas, Mount Eden. In 1920 he was appointed vicar of Fitzroy. He remained at Fitzroy for nine years.

Major H. Blake Taylor, who has had a distinguished engineering career in India in connection with the construction of railways, has arrived at Auckland from Sydney. From 1912 to 1914 he was general manager of the Uganda Railway, Kenya Colony, and during the war he was Deputy Assistant Director of Movements at the War Office. While in the Dominion ho will visit Air. T. H. Lowry, in Hawke’s Bay.

Having just completed a tour ns examiner for the Royal College of Music, of Jamaica, Canada and Australia, Mr. Hugo Anson, ALA., Alus.Bae., Hon. A.E.C.AL, son of Dr. fi. E. Anson, of Lower Hutt, lias arrived in Wellington. Air. Anson, when in London, is a teacher of harmony, counterpoint, ear-train-ing and composition at the Royal College of Music : but he is known in other directions for good work, notably as a composer of works for orchestra, piano forte, and string quartets.

The New Zealand manager of the Union Assurance Company, Wellington. Mi- r Arthur J. Hyder, lias been notified of his transfer to Australia. The announcement was made at. a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association, when Air. Hyder tendered bis resignation as a member of the council and representative of the Auckland Football Association. The chairman, Air. F. Campbell, expressed regret at the loss of Air. Hydcr’s services, and wished him success in Australia. Mr. Hyder has also had a long association with cricket in Wanganui.
