Mr. C. W. Kent, who has been town clerk of O&maru for 25 years, will retire at the end of this month.

The secretary of the North and South Island Motor Unions has been advised that Lord Bledisloe has consented to nccept the office of patron. Miss Claire Macrossan, Brisbane, has been appointed associate to her father, Mr. Justice Macrossan. It is thought that Miss Macrossan is the first woman to fill such a position in Queensland.

Mr. Hoani Halbert lift Invercargill recently for Dunedin where he will be solo violinist at the Dunedin Royal Male Choir's presentation of “The Desert” .in conjunction with the Invercargill Male Choir.

Mr. B. Cooper, a former New Zealander, whose home was in Hawke’s Bay, and who, for the past 22 years, has been attached to the Survey Department in the Federated Malay States, has arrived at Auckland to spend his furlough in the Dominion. Mr. R. M. Gaustad, of the Public Service Superannuation Department, Wellington, has obtained the highest average marks in Australia and New Zealand in the final examination of the Australasian Institute of Secretaries, and thus qualifies for the institute’s gold medallion. This is the sixth occasion on which the gold medallion has been won by a Wellington candidate. The Semaphore Baptist Church, Adelaide, which some time ago extended a call to its pastorate to the Rev. Bernard Wilson, formerly of Auckland and now of Christchurch, has after nearly a year renewed the call, and Mr. Wilson, with the consent of the Baptist Union, has accepted it. Mr. Wilson, who is only 28, is a son of the Rev. A. S. Wilson. The Semaphore Church is orte of the largest Baptist Churches in South Australia.
