“COMMON FALLACY” EXPLODED
“Common fallacies” associated with the primary industries qt’ New Zealand were -touched on fit a meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce coupcil, called to discuss the chamber’s attitude toward the move to raise the rate of exchange.
“People are very apt in this country to confuse the idea of sheep farmers with wealthy men,” said Mr W. iR. Matheson. “There nro 'perhaps 3000 wealthy men among the farmers, but there are 50,000 small men who last year were not getting wages.”
The chairman, Mr J. I’. Luke, president: of the chamber, said (that in his opinion another common fallacy was that the farmers kept the cities. “They never have, and they never will, ’ ’ added Mr Luke.
