The trial of Edward Tarrant, who is charged with the murder at i’icton, on November 3, 1931, of an old man named James Flood, was continued to day. Tennyson Connolly, who drove cows daily past the deceased’s whare, said he last saw him alive on November 3 at about 3.30 p.m. That night, at about 9 o’clock, he passed the cottage but saw nobody, and no light. Witness knew the accused and his horse, but saw neither that night. Franklyn James Paisiow deposed to seeing the accused at about 6.30 o’clock on the night of November 3. If the accused said he saw or spoke to witness at 8 o'clock that night it was not true. Isaac John Parfitt said lie knew the accused well. On the night of November 3 he did not drive past the Clarendon Hotel and did not see the accused or call to him. Cross-examined, the. witness admitted that many people called good-night frequently, and he might not have remembered an isolated instance. Another taxi-driver often was mistaken for ■witness.
