FUNDS FOR COMMUNISM
AUSTRALIANS .CHARGED ; SYDNEY, Oct. 24. The first prosecutions under, the amended Federal Crimes Act, dealing with communism, were launched against four men soliciting- contributions to an alleged illegal organisation, the Communist Party, in Australia. The defendants arc Francis Devanev, Robert Grey, Samuel Frew and Joseph Ryan. The charge, which occupied three hours’ reading, arises out of an appeal for. funds through the Communist organ, The Workers’ Weekly. ■ 1 • The hearing was adjourned.
