Waterpower and Ranelagh were fighting out the finish when Fast Passage finished determinedly on trie rails and got up to beat Waterpower by a head, with Ranelagh another head away. Gay Crest, Cricket Bat, Historic and Spearful was the running order in the early stages. Gay Crest and Historic drew out in the run home and in an exciting finish Historic won by a neck. Also ran: 1 Cadland, 2 Great Star, G Chief Link, 7 Equitant, 8 Trojan Melody. Great Star and Trojan Melody led for half a mile from Equitant, Cadland, Chief Link, and Royal Routine. Orupai and La Poupee came right from tile rear over the last two furlongs, and drew well clear, Orapai winning by half a length. Royal Routine was six lengths back and Equitant was fourth. Time, 1.16. Ruahine Handicap.—l The Quorn (L. J. Ellis) 1,2 Drum Eire 2, 3 llurlingham (O’Connor) 3. The placed horses were most prominent to the straight, where a keen struggle saw, The Quorn win by a head, with Huriingliam half a neck away. Dick Whittington was fourth. Time, 1.16.
