VALUE OF THE HORSE
INCREASED DEMAND MOUNT GAM BIER (Vic.), Oct. 12. The greatly increased value of the horse,. compared with a few years ago, was interestedly illustrated during % horse sale held here. The auctioneer had just knocked down a filly for £27 odd, when the owner was heard to remark to a bystander. “1 gave two geese for the mother of that filly.” There was a keen, demand at the sale, especially for heavy sorts. The chief attraction was the sale of two and three year old Clydesdales. Top price was £4O ss, and the average for this draft was £32. Compared with last year’s prices, the average price paid for three-year-olds was £lO per head higher, and the top price for two-year-olds was £33 10s. One nice pair of heavy geldings realised £6O. Fifty-one head of horses were disposed of at an average of £2O 15s.
