INDIAN CONTROVERSY
HOPES FOR SETTLEMENT OUTRAGE IN BOMBAY DELHI, Oct. 22. Rapid progress is being made in attempts to bring about communal political peace in the country. For the first time, it can be said that the situation is hopeful. The Government is adamant towards appeals for the release of Gandhi and this has led to the movement to get prominent Hindus to agree to call off the disobedience campaign. Bombay presidency, which has hitherto been comparatively free from revolutionary activity, was shocked by an attempt to murder an Indian deputy collector. The shot missed and his assailant escaped in the darkness. A Hindu student and his little sister were severely injured by an apparently premature explosion of a bomb in a Dacca bouse, where the police laterfound explosives and revolutionary literature.
The Bombay postal revenue has been depleted by an illegal private parcel delivery system, whereby vast profits have been made by Surat district organisations allied to the, Congress.
