REMARK IN COURT
CONTEMPT CHARGE FOLLOWS “I'll do six months for this, then,” said Laurence Owen, a relief worker, as lie walked from the Hawera courtroom. However, his attitude was changed after spending two hours under arrest, and upon his appearance to answer a charge of contempt of court he expressed contrition.
Mr. J. If. Salmon, S.M., took into account the needs of Owen’s eight children in convicting and discharging him. Some time ago, under a court order, Owen, who has paid only 15s in rent in five months, was evicted. After the bailiff left, Owen resumed occupation. A further application for possession was made, and Owen was ordered to vacate the premises within a week. It was then that he made the remark, and he was immediately placed under arrest.
