CANADA’S NEW PORT
GRAIN LOADING AT CHURCHILL CHURCHILL, Aug. 29. Before the early winter sends the icc lloes charging down to block the passage through Hudson Strqits more than 2,000,000 bushels of grain will have moved out of this new northern seaport to {ho markets of Great Britain and the Continent of Europe. Two grain-laden ships are already on the High seas after loading here, 'As fast as the. wheat from the hugo modern elevator is poured into the ships, more is brought in from the prairies over the Hudson Bay Railway. A train-load of wheat, some 30 cars, now moves northward every day. gathered froni country points in Northern and Central Saskatchewan. News lias been received that one of the grain steamers struck an icefield in Hudson Bay and foundered, the crew being rescued. This will probably affect the irisuranco market for vessels engaged in this trade, and may mean a serious setback to Churchill.
