The Gisborne City Band concert which was to have been held in tho Botanical Gardens on iSuiulay last, hut which was postponed oil account of the vain, will take place to-morrow afternoon, tlie programme commencing at 3 o’clock. Forty pounds in prizes are announced in.an advertisement on page 14 setting out a. competition for Honolulu orange beverage, a new summer drink that is being introduced to the residents of this district through the usual retail trade channels

Members of the Freezing Workers’ Union are notified of a special general meeting to be held to-morrow morning, when a matter of importance in connection with rates of wages and conditions of employment will lie dealt with. Every member is requested to attend this mooting, which will commence at 10 a.m. Gomm’s bus will pick up members en route from Waipaoa, leaving there at 9 a.m. Tho official opening of the PovertyBay Basketball Tennis Club for the 1932-33 season will take place at tho (jhilders road courts on Saturday, October 22. A full programme has been arranged for the afternoon, while in the evening a dance is to he held in the Freesia Lounge, commencing at 8 o’clock. A cordial invitation is extended to all members and their friends to he present.

The function is one that in past years has attracted a great deal of attention from llovver-lovers, and tins season will see somo novel features added to the programme, including voting contests with the object of selecting the most handsome girl and the least handsome man present, and a schedule class for the best-designed garden scarecrow. In the evening, ail entertainment will be given by a party organised by Miss Josephine dies Banes, of Gisborne.
