BOXER’S TRAGIC DEATH
WELLINGTON YOUTH COLLAPSE AFTER BOUT Having lain in a critical condition since Ins admission on Tuesday night, Geoffrey Wilson, 17, a jockey, dieu m the Wellington Hospital at 5 o’clock on 'Wednesday evening, following his collapse alter competing at the vVeihugton Boxing Association's tournament at the Winter Show Stadium. Wilson collapsed alter the, gong had gone m an amateur bantam-weigni contest against D. Levendge (Miramar). When lie was removed to hospital n was luund that he was suffering from severe head injuries. He failed' to region consciousness after admission. The boxer collapsed while sitting in his corner after the final gong had sounded m the first amateur bout of the evening. Toward the end of the bout lie was knocked down, but rose again on the count of five. He appeared willing to continue the contest. The final gong went, however, and he returned to his corner, where he began to show signs of feeling unwell. Wilson joined the Silverstream Boxing Club some time ago, and during the past three or four months had taken part in about 10 contests. He was looked upon as being u very spiiitod boxer. ‘
