TROUBLE IN BELFAST TENSION THROUGHOUT CITY SNIPERS FIRE ON POLICE (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Oct. 13, 11. a.m.) BELFAST, Oct. 12. The unemployed riots recommenced to-day. Police charging prevented a crowd from raiding a baker’s cart. Several were injured and sent to hospital. The tension has spread throughout the city. Three thousand police are patrolling the danger zones and suppressing attempts at looting smaller shops and the attacking of vehicles. Tho banks aro strongly guarded.

Snipers are again firing at the police, but armoured cars dispersed tho most threatening attacks. As a sequel to yesterday’s trouble, a court was summoned at midnight. Thirty-four men charged with riotous assembly were remanded. Two were charged with the attempted murder of a policeman. Armoured cars continued to patrol all night long. During the riots four pawnshops were pillaged, a lorry laden witli beer was looted, and three houses were burned to the ground. Thirty-one injured persons were treated at the hospitals. The police used cars mounted with machine-guns equipped with birdcage tops to protect the crews from showers of stones.
