, Lit connection with the recent dcj termination of the Poverty Bay Power j Board to launch a scheme for tho in- ] stallation of cooking ranges on a basis |of low monthly rentals, the board’s 1 manager, Dir V. E. Sanders, reported to-day that the number of applications now in hand was 374. A great deal /of work would be involved in investigating the applications and in measuring up the premises of the applicants. The manufacturers of the stoves would forward a sample for examination by | the prospective consumers at an early tittle. In reply to questions, Mr Sanders stated that there would be no obligation on the consumer to use an extravagant amount of current. The more economies they could effect the better the advertisement would be for electric cooking, and no consumer would be penalised for economising. The only stipulation was that they must agree to do all their cooking on the electric stoves, and not to reduce the board’s revenue by utilising alternative methods of cooking. The executive oflicers were given authority to secure tenders for the installation or • Stoves under the new scheme.
