Mr Anstee, who w an inmate of the Auckland Infirmary, said lie had promised himself a flight on his ninetieth birthday, which occurred on May 28 this vear, but unsuitable flying weather .’made it necessary for him to postpone his trip by air. Flying conditions and visibility were excellent on Wednesday, and Air Anstee, well wrapped in a heavy coat, had a particularly enjoyable trip. Ho .said he had been prepared for a eerrain degree of bumpiness, and was 'agreeably surprised by the smooth conditions.
Captain Howett cruised over the city and suburbs for about half an hour, affording his passenger an excellent view of Auckland and the Ilauraki Gulf. Air Anstee was quite at his ease in the machine.
