A GENEROUS POLITICIAN
SALARY GIVEN TO OTHERS ALBURY TACKLES WORK PROBLEM ALBURY. June 23. At a largely-attended public meeting held last night for the purpose of taking steps to secure a response to the Prime Minister’s appeal to private enterprise to find jobs for the unemployed, Mr. A. Mair, M.L.A. for Albury, stated that bo was not a. rich man, but .while such distress existed as at present ho would not accept one penny from his Parliamentary salary apart from out of pocket expenses, but would hand the balance to a special committee to distribute among the suffering. Resolutions were adopted recommending that money be made available to land holders to improve their properties at a reasonable rate of interest for a number of years on the understanding that the money will bo applied substantially in payment of wages for additional employment; that the local council be urged to raise £SOOO to moot repayments asked by the Federal Government, so that it may obtain £25.000 for unemployment; that Mr. Mair. M.L.A., be requested to arranage for dole contracts to bo let to threo or four shops in Albury per week, instead of one; and that, dole coupons bo made open.
