HUGE CANNING PLANT
SOVIET’S LATEST ENTERPRISE.
MOSCOW, April 22. . With tlio world’s largest canning factory of its kind and the help of American Equipment, the Soviet Government has set out to capture a sharo of the international market for canned vegetables. The first shipment abroad from any of Russia’s new food manufacturing plants has just left the new canning! enterprise at Stanitzia Krinskaya for England in the form of 150,030 cans of pork and beans. The prospect is seen of a sale in that country of 2,000,000 more cans of tho same variety if the first consignment is found acceptable. Located in th'e heart of the rich North Caucasus region, the local factory began the first large-scale vegetable production late last summer, but only recently has it begun turning out products of export quality. Besides pork and beans it cans corn, -beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, pumpkins, beets and carrots. The' factory has a capacity of .71X00,000 cans annually, is surrounded by 35,000. acres planted in crops especially to feed it. and employs 1000 workers for its 11 months of operation each year. In the last three months it has produced fi,COO,OOO tins for home consumption. ' Tt is situated 20 miles from Novorossisk. a'port on the Black Sea, which provides a convenient terminal for foreign shipments.
