ENTHUSIASTIC MOTORISTS
QUEUES AT SYDNEY BRIDGE
SYDNEY, March 21
Remarkable anxiety wax displayed by motorists to cross the Sydney Harbor Bridge on the first night, of its opening. At one time the. queue on tin l southern side extended from the toll-house past the. Sydney Town Hall. On the. North Sydney side the queue was at times nearly" a mile long The toll collectors had a tremendous task endeavoring to keep the tiaffic running smoothly after midnight. The j dice, of vvjioin there was a. strong force, assisted m regulating the traffic, and also kept a sharp lookout for the dozens of stolen motor ears, which were reported at headquarters during Hie day. Three motorists divided the honor of crossing the bridge first from the southern side, but one, in a speedy sporting car was) easily the first from the northern side.
'The steady hum of traffic, which will, perhaps, never cfci se. except for those two minutes on Armistice Day, when Australia stands still in memory, commenced at midnight.
