BRITISH FLEET
BUILDING OF SHIPS POSTPONEMENT POSSIBLE LONDON, Nov . 22. The Shipping World says it understands that the Admiralty, under pressure from the Treasury, is reconsidering its draft shipbuilding programme for 1932-33, with a view to the postponement of certain work. This would increase unemployment for many firms and unless sufficient orders are 'soon forthcoming they must close down their works, leaving Britain less capable of producing naval armaments than America, France, or Italy. Experts assert that the strength of the British fleet, relative to other leading navies, is lower than at any time since the Spanish Armada. FRENCH PROGRAMME BARIS, Nov. 23. Instructions have been given to lay down at Loriont dockyard one 7550-ton cruiser, two 2700-ton cruisers and the destrovers of the noyv naval programme.
