| (Herald Correspondent.) The fortnightly meeting of the ■ Nuhaka Unemployment Committee was held on Monday * evening, when there were present Messrs. Monteath, chairman, South, secretary, Moore, ISliaw, I Crcmbie, Tait and Cooper. The postj master, Mr. Moore, reported that the ' number vT new registrations since last, meeting was 11, including seven Maoris. 1 These were dealt' with. The chairman reported having interviewed Mr. J. S. ! Jessep, deputy chairman of the Unem- | plovment Board, regarding matters in 1 connection with the work of- placing as , many men as possible on useful wont on the land, and it is hoped that • by next meeting arrangements will have I een made to .absorb a minuter of men ..in work of a • semi-nermanont nature. Mr. K. Tucker, who has been a member j of the local committee since its incep--1 tion, sent in his resignation. He expressed bis thanks to the members of . the committee for the courtesy extended in him. The resignation was accepted i with regret. At the close of the meeting Mr. M. South intimated that the next meeting would lie the last he would be able to attend as he expected to be leaving the district just before Christmas, and it would be necessary to appoint another secretary. The members present expressed their regret at losing Mr. South’s services as he had. proved tut especially suitable secretary.. The funeral of the late Mr. John. Wilson Arthur, whidh took place yesterday, wits very largely attended, and in spite, of the inclement weather * large number oi people turned out and proved the respect in which the deceased was held. The interment took place at the Wairoa cemetery. The Rev. T. A. Speer condueted a very well nttcnd- , ed service at the Presbyterian Church, ; and also at the graveside, and Mr. S. K., ' Small conducted the services on behaV. of the local Oddfellows, of which lotVrle the deceased was a member. The Nuhaka Women’s Institute,! of which Mrs. Arthur is an active nietr.bcr as a mark of respect to the deceased, has decided to postpone its jryonthly meeting until December 10.
