’PLANE FORCED DOWN BY LOCUST
CAPTAIN BLACK’S ESCAPE NAIROBI, Oct. 2. A locust was responsible for an air accident which might easilv have cost Hie lives of Captain Campbell Black, the famous East African airman, and his passenger, Mrs. Mansfield Markham, the sister-in-law of Sir Charles Markham, Bart. The Moth machine in which Captain Black and Mrs. Markham were flying suddenly developed engine trouble, and was forced down so quickly that in landing the propeller was smashed. Tt was then discovered that the defect was due to a locust which had got into the induction pipe, stopping the petrol supply. Fortunately, pilot and passenger escaped without injury,
