NATIONAL DETECTIVE FORCE
LONDON, Sept. 17. A proposal is on foot for establishing a national detective force. As things are at present every police force of the country is on an independent -basis, though one force supplements (mother in special circumstances. The criminal investigation department at Scotland Yard is primarily the detective force of the metropolitan police and its services are- given outside of London only on request. Establishment of a closer liaison between. Scotland Yard and detective departments of other forces would result, it is believed, in a more rapid system of effecting arrests and securing identification of suspected persons. The Government contributes half the cost of the, upkeep of all police .in the country, conditionally upon such forces being certified efficient by one of His 'Majesty’s inspectors of constabulary.
