SITUATION IN HAND
THE REVOLT IN MALTA RINGLEADERS ARRESTED (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Oct. 25. The Colonial Office lias received a telegram from Sir Ronald Stores, the Governor of Cyprus, reporting a disturbance at Limassol, following the arrest of an archbishop. The police fired on the crowd, wounding three. Marines and seamen landed at Larnaca to protect Government property, had to assist the police to quell the demonstration. The cruiser Colombo has been ordered from Malta to Cyprus. Nicosia reports that military motors, unannounced, entered at 3 o’clock and mustered five ringleaders of the revolt, also the Greek Bishop Kitium. All were taken aboard the cruiser. The situation now is peaceful, apart from sporadic demonstrations, and the revolt appears to have ended. Later reports stated that the mobs were getting out of hand and that the leaders slunk away while fanatics set fire to the Governor’s house in five places. It is revealed in details of the revolt that Sir Ronald Storrs lost the whole of his wonderful collection of Greek sculptures and Byzantine treasures.
