Hogan, 84 Awapuni road, received ; fatal injuries when she was knocked down and run over in Childers road yesterday afternoon by a car driven by Mr Geoffrey Parker, 17, son of Mr. Charles Parker, Cook street, The child received v extensive wounds, including severe head j injuries, and her death occurred in a f private hospital two hours ufter the accident. .a .companion, the girl was cycling down Childers road towards town and in the vicinity of the Convent at about 4 p.m. when/the accident occurred, and Mr. Parker was travelling in the same direction. The driver of the car, it is stated, sounded his horn when approaching the cyclists, but apparently the little girl swerved in front of the car as it was about to pass, giving the driver no time to pull up. The ear-struck the -back wheel of the bicycle, and passed over it and the girl. Assistance was immediately forthcoming, and the injured Child was hurried to hospital. Her bicycle was completely wrecked, .scarcely a part of it escaping damage. The girl was «no of a family of six children, And the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to her parents in their bereavement trader such, tragic circumstances. INQUEST OPENED:

An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death was opened • before the coroner, Mr. P. H. Harper. S.M., thisi morning. Detective McLeod representing the police. Mr, L. T. Barnard watched the proceedings ion behalf of the driver of the Cai*. ' Evidence of identification was. given l hv the girl’s father, Thomas Patrick ifogan, carrier, who stated that the child would havo been 11 .years of age on November 22. Dr. H. Ooulding 'Rice stated that he was called to sec the deceased outside his rooms shortly after 4 p.m., the girl then being in a car, and after examining the child witness ordered her removal to ;l piivate hospital. There he made a further examination, in which he found extensive abrasions on the left arm and _ ■ right hip. a deep wound on the chin, ex- • tending .to. the bone, and some mild ' confusions on the chest. There was also evidence of severe interernnial damage. Witness watched the case for the next hour and a half, when symptoms developed showing there to be a fracture at the base of the skull. The intercrahiiiJ pressure increased and the girl passed away shortly before 6 o’clock. She was unconscious during the wholo of tho time witness observed her. The cause of death in witness’ opinion was fracture of the skull and internal haemorrhage The injuries were consistent with the girl having been knocked over by a motor car. • At this staueifhe inquest was adjourned sino die.
