HARBOR MATTERS
(To tho Editor of the Herald.) Sir,—Jit your issue of Thursday last there appeared a. letter by “Ratepayer relative to harbor mutters. Amid utber appraisements is the following: the prescut engineer 'took over the job m ji very unenviable state, and has m the face of much criticism and obstruction pulled the board, out of a very bad mess.” May it. be asked: In .what way has the present engineer been instrumental in pulling the board out of a mess? Has the engineer designed any-thing-of the essence of the works? It is surely true that be has merely superintended tho construction of wo'ykg previously advised, which have proved the essence of the late success to-day l . If 1 am not mistaken it happened that when the board were in dillLcidties they called' in Mr. Leslie Reynolds to advise what best to do. As your correspondent “Ratepayer” is evidently assured of the position of the harbor to-day it should ne painfully evident, that we do not further require an engineer, and in Ibis probably most ratepayers may agree.— Yours, etc ANOTHER RATEPAYER
