■* , ... (Kurald Correspondent.) The annual meeting in connection with the Matawai Public Hall was held on Wednesday. There was a poor attendance. The secretary read the balance shed;, and after'some (juestijohs and further discussion, on Mr. C. W. Korte’s motion, seconded by Mr. A. E. Ashdown, "the report was confirmed. The following officers were re-elected: Chairman, Mr. it Bulst; secretary, Mr.’ F. Korte; committee, Mcsdames Smith and Fielder, and Messrs. C. W. Korte, J-. Woodhead and A. E. Ashdown; auditor, Mr. C. V. Smith. The chairman, asked for a decision regarding the continuance of euchre tournaments, and it was decided that Thursday would be the final night, when the aggregate prizes would bo awarded to the winners. It was arranged that the ladies should Tjold 'a meeting at the library next Wednesday to finalise arrangements for the children’s hard-up ftiiicy dress ball to be held on November 6, and that the men pare tlio hall. After Mfs. had proposed a vote of thanks'to the chairman and secretary, wliic,h was "owjrrijsa ■uiiiinimbusly, the meeting adjourned. The death of Mr.' Bell,' formerly a dentist, of Matawai; has occurred in Auckland.' Mr. "Bell will long he reniehibered for his gentle treatment of the children to whom he ministered in his profession in the years' gone' by. Much sympathy will be ‘ felt, in this district for Mrs. Bell, her two soils and daughter, "in their bereavement. The final of the series of euchre tournaments held, in Mrs. Fielder’s hall' on Thursday night resulted in a win foi’ Mr. 11. heal and Mrs. C. G. Fielder. The aggregate prizes were keenly contested, Mrs. C. V. Smith winping the women’s, a supper-cloth hand-worked: by M> ss V W. Field,er, and Mr. IT- Bulst the men’s'.
