WAIKOHU RUGBY SUBUNION

TE KARAKA WIN SHIELD PRE-SELECTION TRIAL GAME Rugby football in the Waikohu subunion district certainly has been very lively during the season, and the interest of county residents has been aroused to a, degree unknown for some years. Tho club competitions have drawn fair crowds, and the prospect of a visit from a Poverty Bay union representative team js sufficient to turn out the majority of settlers within miles *>l the ground. The senior club competition has closed, Te Karaka having defeated Whatatutu by 14 to 6 iu the final, and thereby become the holders of the sub-union jpremership trophv, a handsome shield. For the next fortnight, the seniors will be chiefly concerned with the prospects of tho Black and White Shield challenge game, to be played in Motu on August 1. The Motu sub-union won tho Black and White Shield from the Poverty Bay juniors on Saturday last, and the challenge of tho Waikohu sub-union is to be played on the home ground of the present holders. To assist the selectors in making their choice of players foi< the Motu trip, a trial game is'to be played on Saturday in Te Karaka between A and B senior teams. The proceeds of this* match are to be donated to tho Waikohu R.S.A. relief fund, and the object is worthy enough to warrant a good attendance, even apart from tho prospects of a really interesting tussle on the field.
