DEATH IN HOSPITAL

DIETICIAN CHARGED MELBOURNE, March 4. Following an inouest to-day into the death of Arthur Naughton Hassell, 60. of Elgar road, Box Hill, the Coroner, Mr. Grant, committed for trial Robert do Villiers Dreyer, a dietician, who conducts the Valkenburg Naturopathic Hospital at Middle Brighton. Russell died on March 2. after having boon removed from the Valenbnrg Hospital, where he was being treated by Dreyer for diabetes and kidney trouble. Evidence was given that Dreyer s chief form of treatment consisted of fasting the patient, and medical practitioners deposed that entirely wrong methods had been adopted. Witnesses said that the patient had received no nourishment while in the hospital, a part from several orange and lemon drinks, and eight drinks of hot water daily. The, Coroner said that Russell's death "•as a'‘ce’erated ’hv the protracted fast. Robert de Villiers Drover had acted with gross ignorance and with criminal recklessness.
