The raising of the sea bed in the Inner Harbor has left one of Richardson and Co. Ltd.’s lighters, the Kaka, Which happened to be on the slip at Wefetshore at the time of the earthquake, a considerable distance from the water’s edge and not a little difficulty is to be expected in once moro getting it afloat. The Kdkil was on the slip n few yards above the water lihe, but, fortunately it was firmly enough spoored for it to withstand tlie shock. Now, however, tlie water lino is 120 ft away and it will be necessary to extend the slip'that distance before the lighter can be brought into commission again, this also entailing dredging operations. It is not expected that this work will he done for some months, but when it is it will have the advantage of providing a slip whidh because of its increased length will provide accommodation for two' vessels itistend of one. as was the case up to tiio time of the dnrthquake.— ll.fi. Herald.
