In Memory of Melba
THE Adelaide oval was filled in every part on the afternoon of March 19, when a mass choral and band service in memory of Dame Nellie Melba was conducted hv Mr. Gustav Slapotl’ski The massed hands rendered Handel’s “Dead March in Saul,” and Hie. choir sang the. Hallelujah, chorus. An oration was delivered hv Dr. Harold Davies, director of flic Elder Cousorva torium. The crowd numbered fO.OOO. Bast and present pupils of the Conserve tori inn ol Music made a pilgrimage to the crave of Dame Nellie Melba. Mr, Fritz Hart conducted, and the assembled choir sang Mr. Hart’s own composition, "The Requiem” dedicated to Dame Nellie. After their beautiful lenditions members of the choir, with reverence, placed flowers on the raised grave.
