BOGUS 'QUAKE WORKER (Per Press Association.) WAJPU.KUR.au, this day. John Hen'ry Avery, 57, appeared before Justices of the Peace this morning on eight charges of thoft and one of fraud. Tlio defendant, describing himself as a relief vyqr.ker from Hastings, camp to this district guaranteeing to rebuild earthquake damaged chimneys for 30s, finding his own materials. He was charged with securing a bag of lime and cement valued at 16s, saying a local resident would pay. He wag sen teheed to four . months' gaol on this charge, and for thefts from Pulceora Sanatorium received six months' gaol, the sentences to be cumulative. On eight other charges of theft in various parts of the district he was sentenced to one month in gaol on each, to be concurrent.
