VALUABLE WORK DONE ELIMINATING DISEASE (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON X.. this day. Extensive tests of all phases of plant investigations have been carried out in the past year by the research station, and through the isolation of disease resisting types it is hoped that club root in swede turnips will become of little economic significance. The experiments cover a wide range, from wheat rusts to tobacco spots, and disease-free lines of many seeds being bulked for commercial distribution. A special investigation is being made of bacterial wilt in beans, a disease which recently has appeared in the Dominion. Many lucerne cultures have been distributed 1 to farmers, and outstanding success lias been achieved.
