DECREASE IN BETTING

INVESTMENTS AT RACES HEAVY DECLINE AT ELLERSLIE A considerable decrease in (lie totalisator investments is shown for the lirst three meetings held by the Auckling Racing Club this season, reports the Herald. The total amount of lifting at Ellerslie for the spring, summer and autumn meetings was £4O-1.377. compared with £010,301 for the three corresponding meetings during 1929-30, a decrease of £151,984 10s. Investments for the lirst three meetings at Ellerslie in 1928-29 were £501,892. Tho turnover at the autumn meeting for the current racing season, which concluded on Monday, showed a total decrease of £51.180 from the corresponding two days’ racing of 1930. This autumn the receipts amounted to £102,317, as against £153,497 last Easter. At tliis season’s spring meeting the total receipts at Ellerslie innovated 1 i £79,502, a decrease of £.'10,920 10s from tin 1 corresponding meeting of the previous year. Race-goers invested £282,558 on the machine at Ellerslie over last Christmas and New Year, and this represents a decrease of £09,878 compared with the previous corresponding fixture. Ellerslie during the spring, Minuner and autumn meetings of this season, and at the corresponding meetings during the two preceding seasons:—
