MARKSMANSHIP TEST

GISBORNE RIFLE CLUB 'VARSITY TOURNAMENT Championship and cup matches for marksmen from various parts of the district were conducted by the Gisborno Defence Rifle Club during the Easter holidays, and the meeting proved a highlv successful one. There was a. big attendance of riflemen, and the competitors included shots from Tmiroto, Ngatapa. and Nnhaka. The light was .Mood but a rear fishtail wind offered some' difficulty lo several of the competitors, especially at the longest 'V Jeune, with a score of 140 out of a possible 150. was again successful in the ' championship aggregate for the Farmers' Bell and Barry Cup. and 1. Holden. who shot consistently Inroujipout filled the position of runner-up in Hie championship. In the opening match for the Taxi Cup. of 10 shots at 303yds.. Ja.s. Johnstone was the winning marksman, and the Townley Cup match, of 10 shots at 500yds.. was won by F Jeune, inn., with 48 out of a I possible 50. the. same rifleman also won the Field Cup match, of 10 shots at 600yds.. with 47 out of 50.
