A PRINCE'S WARDROBE

£2OO UNDERWEAR PARISIAN FIRMS DROPPED LONDON, Feb. 20. The "Maharajah of Patiala, during' his trips to Europe, has spent more than £31,000 on shirts and underwear. The ma ha rajah has the reputation of being the' wealthiest and best dressed of the Indian princes, and his Monte Cristo manner in the matter of clothes is celebrated throughout Europe in the great tailoring houses.

One of his sartorial foibles is to wear pants of a particular weave costing approximately £2OO a pair. Mr. A. J. L.oil, shirtmaker to the Prince of Wales, appears to have succeeded in weaning the maharajah from the Parisian firms lie patronised, and has procured orders which will •help British labor and advertise British goods. "t have known the maharajah to .spend £22,00(1 with a Paris house for shirts, socks, and underwear," said Mr. Izod, "and most of these shirts were supplied to the Paris house by a British firm.

"Some time ago i was fortunate enough to receive a £3OOO order from the maharajah, and now he seems to have taken a liking to our wares and offers the fullest patronage,"

A great amount of the necessary material is made at Matlock. The Indian princes at the recent RoundTable Conference were highly interested in the Maharajah of Patiala'a wardrobe, and many large orders resulted from his wearing 'his English clothes at the conference.
