TRIAL IN FRANCE

JURY UNCERTAINTY ALLEGED MURDERER ACQUITTED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Tress Assn.) (Received January 22, 11 a.m.) PARIS, Jan. 21. The proverbial uncertainty of the jury system was illustrated in the Seine Assize when a stonemason, Thill, was charged with murdering his 19-year-old son. whom he shot in his sleep. it was admitted that the father was ;i drunken ne'er-do-well, and that the son was constantly upbraiding him for it.

The defence was that the son was just as had as his father. The jury asked what the punishment would be if a verdict of guilty under extenuating circumstances was returned. The judge.said it would be at least five years' gaol. The jury decided that would be too severe, and brought in a verdict of acquittal.
