BANDITS WRECK TRAIN
OUTRAGE IN CHINA 100 PASSENGERS KILLED SHANGHAI, Dee. 30. Removing part of the track near Peipiao station on the Pckin-Mukden railway, bandits derailed a train. The locomotive boiler exploded and the train caught fire. Many third-class passengers were burned to death. Two stokers and two officials, were killed and scores seriously injured. While the flames were raging, the bandits sacked the train, carrying off 90 merchants for ransom and releasing some who were poor. The outrage is considered the worst ever perpetrated on the Chinese railways. The deaths total 100. The mails were also stolen.
