The need for sacrifice in tin* face of One of the most serious ordeals wherewith Britain ever has been faced was emphasised in a sermon last night by !ho Archbishop of Canterbury, in Canterbury Cathedral. Sacrifice must be made by all classes and sections, though it be the sacrifice of long-conceived opinions. There must lie a readiness to view the situation in the light of existing facts. There must be sacrifices of industry, agriculture, and trade unions, and sacrifices rendered necessary in order to secure for industry and for labor the mobility which was needed to meet the crisis of the time. There might even have to be sacrifice of advantages which certain sections of the, community, quite rightly at the time, secured for themselves, but which were no longer consistent with right and fairness to the whole body of the people. There might have, to-be, though it was hard to say it, some temporary sacrifice of the standard of life, deservedly won on the basis of the past, when production and sale were assured.
